Strict Vicar were one of the most influential bands to come out of the scantly documented NWOIOMHM (New Wave of Isle of Man Heavy Metal) scene. They were often the subject of ridicule by those in the NWOBHM scene who were quick to point out that there had never been a first wave of Isle of Man Heavy Metal. Nevertheless, Strict Vicar's impact on seminal, mid-eighties metal bands such as Denmark's Reign of Imps and Wales' Cheeky Devil cannot be underestimated. Their brief tour of the South Scandinavian summer festival season in 1981 can be pinpointed as the genesis of the Norsecore scene that followed in their wake.
Strict Vicar's one and only, regionally distributed release was 1980's "Mercy for Nun" b/w "Infinite Sermon" on their own Mercybeat Records imprint (MBR-0001). Only 300 copies of the 45rpm single were pressed ahead of concert dates throughout Southern England and Western Europe in support of Sweden's Fjordstomper. Some copies of the single have been recovered as far off as Japan and Brazil, due to an add placed by the band in the back of Sounds Magazine.
We recently got in touch with SV's lead guitar player Nige Stromson. He initially agreed to a re-release of the "Mercy for Nun" single with bonus tracks, but retracted his offer after consulting his wife. Instead, he offered to sell us the rights to the name (Strict Vicar) and all intellectual property attached to the name.
We now offer this investment opportunity to any levelheaded bangers out there with a bit of scratch. Strict Vicar is now available for purchase at the low price of $1,200.
